No Single Use Plastic at Liger

Plastic is now becoming the most popular thing that people use for packing food, to drink or eat something, and it becomes their habits. It’s almost impossible to eliminate plastics but I’m sure that we can stop single-use plastic. In this exploration, we wanted to start our campaign from small to big, which means that stating it from my school, Liger, then to the community, then Cambodia. Etc.

Since the start of our exploration. We divided into teams and brainstorm ideas on how to convince people to stop using plastic. Then, we went around the campus and interviewed students and staffs so that we could know what types of plastic do they use every day. We also organized the school, trash house to make it easier to put trash in. After that, we went around the campus and counting trash and the result was super unbelievable. We got thousands of plastic within one week in the school! That huge! That was just our school, what about the country, and the planet. Imagine how many are those plastics? Then, we started to think that we should start from something smaller, so we started to stop single-use straw first. We gave out bamboo and metal straws to students & staffs to see what do they think about it compared to plastic straws. We went to a cafeteria company shop in AEON 2 mall called BetterU and the reason why we went there was that they are brought grass straw to Cambodia and we thought it was very interesting. We also made a Facebook Page called No Plastic Cambodia and I hope you love it and don’t forget to leave a like. There we came to our last week of the first exploration! We went on our second trip to AEON mall to meet a person named Sandy who is from a non-government organization called Only One Planet. Her NGO is working on a project to stop single-use plastic and she made some cool biodegradable products that could replace plastic. And we got back to our school, we shared about the ideas to our school director. We’ve got so many more ideas and we went to ask our chef, Matt for price comparison between plastic to biodegradable. Then, we launched our campaign on the school assembly. On that same day, we were sharing and presenting about our exploration to many people on the school sharation (presentation) day. Thank you ever so much for reading and visiting my portfolio. Have a fantastic day!

English Literacy – Round 1

This is the first term of essentials in Liger Leadership Academy. English literacy is one of the most important essentials to participate in. In the literacy class, I’ve got to learn new and got more knowledge from my facilitator, Hannah and get to learn with the new class which is called the Lit Studio.

Everyday before the class, we always do the positive affirmation to make everyone feels comfortable and thinks optimistic in class. In this round, our big theme is about the history of English language. Every week, we’ve learned ten new words that we needed to know about the definitions, synonym, antonym and especially root words or where are those words come from? In the first week of the first round, we’ve learned about the pre English which it’s all about where did English come from. We also learned about the gods behind days of the week and what does it mean. For week two, we were learning about the old English which was from year 450 to year 1000. Beside that, we’ve learned about 10 new words that are related to eyes and ears. One of the most exciting moments was making teaching videos about those new words and shared it to my classmates. Then, we made it to week three which was the week that we studied about middle English. One day of that week was on the day we called “9/11” which was happened 17 years ago. We did some research about it and I thought it was an interesting thing to learn. Learning about special events in the past is related to memories. So, my classmates and I wrote a paragraph about our earliest memories and it made me feel very enthusiastic to write more about it. Let’s move on to the fourth week! During that brilliant week, we were on the way to the middle modern English which was very famous about William Shakespeare. Our facilitator made us read a article about Shakespeare and learned more about him. After that, everyone got a partner and our tasks were to research about anyone that is famous and read some biography about that person and my partner and I decided to choose Harriet Tubman. Then, we needed to plan and made a video about her biography and convince people to come to an exhibition that is mainly about her. Here is the link to my video (https://flipgrid.com/ac74b7) and I hope you will enjoy it. For week 5, we’ve learned about the modern English, which was from 1763 to 1989 which was the year that the second version of Oxford Dictionary published. Also, I wrote a cinquain poem about photography which is what I love to do in my free times. In addition to that, my facilitator introduced Mahatma Gandhi who was a perfect role model that took peace and independence back to India without any violence. October, 1st was the first day of the last week before Pjum Ben break. During that last week, we did an overall review about what I’ve learned and how well I did in the class.

Last but not least, this first round of English Literacy was one of the best classes I participated in. I gain a lot more knowledge and learned so many new words. Thank you ever so much for visiting and reading my portfolio.

Math – Round One

Math is one of the most important subjects that I need to learn and gain my knowledge and it’s really important for my future, too. In this first term of math, I’ve learned many lessons such as whole numbers, fraction and algebra. I was trying to make the best of my learning in this class and other classes.

In the whole numbers lesson, I learned about writing numbers in words and standard forms; adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, comparing numbers and estimating. For fraction lesson, I studied about proper and improper fractions, comparing fractions, mixed numbers, adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying Fractions. For algebra, we did some challenging algebra word problems but I did very well, too. Even though it was difficult, there are no right or wrong, it is our experience.

Seven weeks so far, I very enjoyed and I can’t wait to learn more lessons and do more exercises. Math is fun!
